unity high school
“Unity” is a powerful theme for the name of this new high school, with application for both the school’s identity and its aspirations. During the Last Supper Discourse, Jesus prays that the apostles will be one, just as He and the Father are one.
“I pray not only for them, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us, that the world may believe that you sent me.” (John 17:21)
The Catechism offers: “There is a certain resemblance between the unity of the divine persons and the fraternity that men are to establish among themselves in truth and love. Love of neighbor is inseparable from love for God.” (CCC 1878)
Unity High School’s focus on practical education, leadership, virtue, and service to others is a manifestation of the Catholic faith. “The human person needs to live in society. Society is not for him an extraneous addition but a requirement of his nature. Through the exchange with others, mutual service and dialogue with his brethren, man develops his potential; he thus responds to his vocation.” (CCC 1879)
The purpose of Unity High School is to train young people to work toward unity in their near-term vocational call, whether that is higher education, work, or military service. The world, our country, and even our communities are severely divided. God’s creation is vast and we are diverse but Jesus prayed that we be united. Unity High School humbly aspires to be a response to Jesus’ prayer.
Upon authorization from the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, the school's name likely will change to Unity Catholic High School.
