Math

Math
Unity High School will place students in a mathematics course appropriate to their individual readiness. New for 2020-2021 School Year!  The following courses will be offered with an on-site instructor: Geometry, Honors Geometry, Algebra 2, and Honors Algebra 2.
Students placed in courses other than the four listed above will utilize math courses offered through Apex Learning: Algebra 1; Mathematics 1, 2 and 3; Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, and AP Statistics.  Students placed in Apex math courses will be offered support by the on-site instructor.
On-site courses will utilize a flipped classroom model. Students will view instructional videos and take notes outside of class time. Time in class will be utilized for students to practice skills and investigate topics at a deeper level of critical thinking. A strong emphasis will be placed on investigating real world uses for Mathematics. This model will aspire to fit the following parts of the Unity Mission:
  • To combine the best of the liberal arts, character development, and leadership to offer a curriculum that develops students as both thinkers and doers.
  • Develop communication skills, creativity, critical thinking, the ability to work within a team, empathy, and resilience.
Honors courses will cover the same basic topics as the regular courses at the same pace. Honors students will utilize a deeper level of thinking and work on more challenging problems. In addition to the skills for the regular course, honors students will learn skills necessary for success in higher level math (i.e., Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus).
